Two Juveniles Arrested After Striking Vehicles on I-640 from Bridge Overpass

Knoxville Police Department officers arrested two juveniles for reckless endangerment who are suspected of throwing objects off an overpass and onto I-640 early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, officers responded to I-640 West at Bruhin Road, where a tractor-trailer driver reported that an object struck his truck and shattered the windshield. Responding officers were unable to locate any suspects during their investigation.

The following day, at approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning, officers responded to the same location after receiving multiple calls of objects being dropped from an overpass onto the interstate and striking multiple tractor-trailers.

TDOT cameras spotted two individuals, later identified as a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, walking on the railroad overpass over I-640. Responding officers were able to detain the two juveniles on Central Avenue Pike. Both admitted to dropping rocks off the overpass to officers during questioning. Both were charged with reckless endangerment and taken to the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center.

Nobody was injured in either of these incidents.

Property Crime detectives are working to determine if the two suspects arrested on Wednesday morning were also involved in the vandalism that happened in the same area on March 25.
